I will preface this by saying I really don't know what birch oil is supposed to smell like, but, this is not what I expected or wanted. I ordered this because I'd used a birch-scented lotion that smelled absolutely divine and I'd hoped I could get more of that scent. That product smelled sweet, minty, green, fresh, and a little bit earthy, sort of like root beer (which is made from tree roots and birch is a tree so, go figure). Unfortunately, this smells 90% like wood smoke. And not even like a lovely fall campfire smell that makes you want to make smores. Just kind of an acrid, maybe slightly earthy smoke smell. Again, that may be right on-brand for birch and may be what every other buyer is expecting. But for me, I was disappointed.

It was exactly what I was looking for.
